Our Next Audition:
January 12, 2013 - Time TBD
Because the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles strives for artistic excellence, auditions are necessary, and competitive. We understand that the idea of an audition can be terrifying, and we do our best to make the audition process as painless as possible.
When you audition, the only people in the room will be you, the Chorus’ Artistic Director, our Assistant Conductor, our Accompanist and one of our section music leaders. They will ask you a few questions about your musical background, and ask you to sing some scales to determine the range of your voice. You will be asked to sight-read a simple piece of music, and may be given an exercise to test your ability to hear and reproduce different pitch sequences. You may also be given an exercise to test your rhythmic ability.
Finally, you will be asked to sing a song. You should pick a song that you love to sing, anything from an operatic aria to Take Me Out To The Ballgame. If you want to be accompanied by the piano, please bring the sheet music in the correct key. It is also perfectly acceptable to sing without accompaniment.
If you are interested in auditioning or have any other questions, please contact Jonathan Scaggs.
